The impact of COVID on how the involvement of amateur radio operators supporting the event has not been fully determined, but, it's safe to say that reasonable precautions will be taken to minimize the risks, in accordance with CDC guidelines.

The ironman event is the full-sized event, with a 112 Mile bike course that takes competitors on some of the local roadways, and uses the Hardy Tollway heading south to form a huge 2 loop section of potentially very fast course.
This year, we've been asked to assist primarily with SAG and non-Hardy Tollway Aid Stations, and some additional 'in between' potential 'hot-spots' that could be troublesome.
SAG duty means either being a communicator in a vehicle driven / provided by others, or, using your own vehicle to augment the other vehicles. Gift cards will be provided to those that use their own vehicle so that fuel usage can be compensated for. If you can help with SAG, please note whether you are able to provide a vehicle or be a communicator. I'd prefer each vehicle have a driver and a separate communicator, unless it's part of a 'combo', in which case, we might only need 1 communicator per combo.
Course monitor assignments can mean Aid Station assignments or 'in-between' locations.
Aid Station duty means being assigned to a particular location, where you will provide reports regarding those waiting for transport, and anything else that comes up.
'in-between' stations primarily observe competitors and report any medical or SAG related needs.
Currently it's unknown exactly whether HT will be usable with good reliability, but, it's sure to be said that a mobile setup will work fine.
If you have APRS capability, it will be most welcome, and even advantageous, so that your whereabouts can be monitored.
Anticipated On-Station Time and Duration
If you are involved with SAG for the entire time, you're probably going to be involved from around 7AM through until around 5pm. If we have enough operators volunteer to help, this may be significantly reduced by way of early / late shifts, and, the release of operators as the field collapses towards the end of the bike portion of the event.
There are two hard cut-off times at around the half-way mark, and the return to transition from the bike course.
Competitors that are not maintaining a pace that will allow them to finish the bike course by the close-off time will be offered SAG back to the transition area as a DNF.
Aid Station assignments may be in single or double-shifts, depending on location. Radio operators will be released progressively as the last bike rider makes their way past your location.
